Our Miss Ashtyn got very dizzy about 3 weeks ago. Dizzy enough that she thought she was going to pass out and she could not walk a straight line. Bri took her to the Instacare, and they diagnosed an inner ear infection. When she followed up with her doctor, the doc thought there was nothing wrong with Ash's ears and tested her for neural issues. She ordered a full spinal and brain MRI and said she couldn't go back to work till she'd been cleared by a neurologist.
In addition to the dizziness, one day last week Ashtyn's hand went numb. I knew immediately the MRI was to scan for MS, and it made me sick. To think that our 18-year-old daughter already had such HUGE symptoms was overwhelming and made me sad every time I thought about it.
Last Sunday I was up before the rest of the family, so I picked up the scriptures. I knew I wanted to read about the Savior, but I didn't know exactly where, so I just opened to the book of Matthew and started reading. I read many chapters, but when I read the following in chapter 17, it struck my heart deeply:
15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatic, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
I read this before Ash went to her doctor and before the MRI was suggested, but I was struck. A couple of days later, as I worried about our daughter, I had the clear thought that I knew the answer because I'd read it on Sunday. So on Friday I fasted and prayed. My prayer was something like, "I'm trying really hard to have the faith to accept thy will. But I have to ask for what I want, because I the answer is automatically no if you don't ask. Ash's patriarchal blessing promises her health, and that is what I want for her. I want her to be well, and mostly I DON'T want her to have to face MS."
Ash spent over 2 hours in an MRI machine on Friday night, while I sat in the waiting room and, well, waited. We (Spencer, Landon, and I) were heading to youth conference in Wyoming yesterday. I made arrangements to not go so that I could be home when Ash got her results.
When I finally got hold of her yesterday, our Ash was an unhappy girl. It gave me a fright. I said, "OK, what's wrong?"
Ash responded, "Nothing is wrong. The MRI came back perfectly clear."
Now, my friends, I KNOW that my prayer was answered (as far as the MRI is concerned) because of prayer and fasting.
I KNOW THAT MY PRAYER WAS ANSWERED BECAUSE OF PRAYER AND FASTING.
I am so very grateful!

Sometimes I Actually Learn
About 10 years ago, I got sick. I was so miserable, and when I get sick I get really stupid. I don't think to take a temperature. I don't think to take medicine. All I can do is roll over in bed and play dead. After three days of misery--chills, aches, sore throat, hot and cold flashes--my friend said, "Do you think you might have strep?" As soon as she said it, I knew that was what it was. Sure enough, the strep test came back positive.
The doctor asked if I wanted a prescription or a shot. I was so sick, and he explained that the shot would have me feeling better within hours. But oh, how I hate shots! I said, "Is it subcutaneous or intramuscular?" He said, "Are you a nurse?" I said, "No, just a shot connoisseur."
In the end, I had the shot, administered by a WONDERFUL assistant who gave me a really smooth shot. And sure enough, I was better by that afternoon. Blessed, wonderful 21st century medicine!!!
Last night my throat got more and more sore as the evening progressed. We went to the vet clinic, home, to the pet ER (Bella had to spend the night in the hospital), to dinner, and to a movie. By the end of the movie all I could think was, "I HAVE to get in my bed!" See? Stupid!
I got up this morning and turned off my alarm. I slept for another 4 hours. When I got up, stiff and sore, I thought, "I wonder if I have strep?" Amazing, right? Yes. Yes, it is.
And yes, I do.

I'm a Sicko
This morning I took an allergy pill and took Landon to the orthodontist. By the time his ortho appointment was finished, I was decidedly sleepy. The drive home was eternal. I was taking Lando to his school when he remembered that he had forgotten his backpack. The detour home took forever. I finally got home, undressed, and climbed into bed. For four hours.
I've fought exhaustion all day. I've also blown my nose enough to use an entire roll of tp and a half of a box of Kleenex. I stayed awake, though, so I would be able to sleep tonight.
Easy, right? I should be able to take another allergy pill and say good-bye to the world for 5 -- 6 hours of slumber.
Apparently it doesn't work that way.
In other news, I am proofing a book for DB, and I love it. When it is published, you might just receive a copy from me. It's that good. It's non-fiction, and I think all women of all ages should read it.
The end.

Let's Discuss Friday the 13th
Nah, let's not. Let's just say that I was glad for the weekend to begin. Here's our weekend: This is Taylor with his date, Lindsay Bird, as they are leaving for the Sadie Hawkins dance. Awww...!
Here is Spencer, who used amazing talent, skill, and positive energy to create this pot for one of his teachers.
This is the view out our front door this morning.
This is what I've looked like every Sunday for three weeks (except sometimes without the smile). My cold is better, but Bri had a terrible case of the flu Thursday and Friday. The bishop invited us to keep our family home today and get better. While I'm getting lots of little projects done, it sure doesn't feel like a Sunday. *sigh*
And tomorrow I will head back to work, where I will hope that Monday the 16th is better than Friday the 13th was.
